Rotterdam and Schiedam, January 2025 – Huisman, an esteemed member of HHWE, and Ulstein are proud to announce their collaboration with Penta-Ocean Construction to design and deliver a groundbreaking heavy lift vessel for the Japanese offshore wind market. This project exemplifies the integration of advanced engineering solutions and innovative design.

Key Highlights

• 5,000mt Tub Mounted Crane: Huisman will deliver a state-of-the-art 5,000mt Tub Mounted Crane with features including dual main hoist, Universal Quick Connector, compact tail swing, and Motion Compensated Pile Gripper for efficient and safe installation of large-diameter monopiles.
• ULSTEIN HX118 Design: Ulstein’s customised ULSTEIN HX118 design incorporates the Ulstein U-STERN™, enabling longitudinal storage and upending of monopiles along the ship’s centreline. This allows for the installation of longer monopiles without overhanging the ship’s sides and minimises ship motions and fuel consumption.
• Pioneering Vessel: Developed in collaboration with Penta-Ocean Construction and Ulstein, this vessel will be the world’s first fully integrated heavy lift vessel with one of the highest lifting capacities globally, designed to meet the increasing demands of the offshore wind industry.

Project Development

Following feasibility and concept studies in 2023, Penta-Ocean Construction selected Ulstein for the project. Since last summer, Ulstein has been collaborating with Penta-Ocean Construction on the Basic Design, supported by extensive model testing and significant contributions from Ulstein Poland.
